Shambhala: Expedicion al Himalaya is a high-speed steel roller coaster at PortAventura. It is themed after the Himalayan Mountains, home to Mount Everest, the tallest mountain on Earth. The ride is in the China area of the park.
Ride history[]
The ride was announced around 2010-2011, and construction on the attraction began around the same time. After several months of construction and testing, Shambhala had its grand opening at PortAventura on May 12, 2012.
Ride synopsis[]
After riders board their vehicle and are given a final safety check, the train pulls out of the station and ascends up the 249-foot lift hill, which towers over the neighboring Dragon Khan roller coaster. The train then speeds down the 256-foot drop at a 77.4-degree angle, reaching the ride's top speed (83mph). Riders then speed into a tunnel, and then curve upwards into a 190-foot camelback. The vehicle then descends again and races through an eight-shaped helix. The eight-shaped helix is followed by several small camelbacks and a big splash after a drop and a tunnel. Riders then enter Shambhala's grand finale: two additional camelbacks and a 180-degree final spin into the station.
